High Intensity Support
Some participants need more than everyday care – they need skilled, trained workers who understand complex clinical needs and deliver support safely, consistently, and with genuine care. At Number 1 Care, we provide high intensity support for NDIS participants with specialist daily living needs across Brisbane, Logan, and Ipswich.
With 15+ years of lived and professional experience, our team is trained to deliver safe, skilled, and person-centred high intensity support – every shift, every day.
We understand that for participants and families navigating high intensity needs, consistency and trust are everything. That’s why we focus on familiar faces, clear communication, and support that is always built around you.
Support Built for High Intensity Needs
High intensity support is not one-size-fits-all. Everything we do is tailored to your specific needs, your clinical requirements, and your daily routines.
We work alongside participants, families, allied health teams, nurses, and support coordinators to deliver care that is safe, consistent, and built around your life.
Who We Support
- Acquired brain injury (ABI)
- Spinal cord injury
- Progressive neurological conditions (e.g. MS, MND)
- Severe or complex mental health conditions
- Multiple co-occurring disabilities
- Participants requiring clinical or specialist daily living support
Every participant’s high intensity needs are different. We build your support around your specific requirements – not a generic template.
Our High Intensity Supports Include
Hoist and Transfer Support: Safe, trained assistance with hoist operation and complex manual transfers. Our workers are trained in the correct use of ceiling hoists, mobile hoists, and standing hoists – following each participant’s specific handling plan to ensure safety, comfort, and dignity at every transfer. We work with physiotherapists and occupational therapists to follow prescribed positioning and transfer techniques.
Bowel Management: Skilled support with complex bowel care programs as prescribed by a medical professional or continence nurse. This includes digital stimulation, suppository administration, enema administration, manual evacuation where required, and monitoring bowel output as part of a documented bowel management plan. All bowel care is delivered with dignity, privacy, and strict hygiene protocols.
Catheter Care: Ongoing support with urinary catheter management including emptying and changing catheter bags, monitoring for signs of infection or blockage, and maintaining hygiene around catheter sites. Workers are trained to identify and escalate concerns to the appropriate health professional promptly.
Enteral Feeding (PEG / Tube Feeding): Support with preparing and administering feeds via PEG or nasogastric tube as per the participant’s prescribed feeding plan. This includes flushing tubes, monitoring feed rates, checking tube placement, and recognising and responding to complications. All enteral feeding support is delivered in line with the treating dietitian and medical team’s instructions.
Tracheostomy Care: Trained support with tracheostomy management including suctioning, inner cannula cleaning and replacement, stoma care, and humidification management. Workers supporting participants with a tracheostomy hold the required competencies and work closely with the respiratory team and treating medical staff.
Ventilator Support: Assistance for participants who use mechanical ventilation, including circuit checks, monitoring alarms, and responding appropriately to ventilator issues. All ventilator support is delivered by trained workers with clear escalation pathways to medical teams.
Epilepsy Management and Seizure Response: Support workers trained in individual seizure action plans – including rescue medication administration (e.g. midazolam), correct positioning, timing and documenting seizures, and when to call emergency services. Every worker supporting a participant with epilepsy is trained on their specific plan before commencing support.
Subcutaneous Injections: Administration of subcutaneous injections as prescribed and delegated by a registered nurse or medical practitioner. This includes insulin administration for participants with diabetes and other prescribed injectable medications, following strict infection control and documentation protocols.
Wound Care: Basic to complex wound care including dressing changes, monitoring wound healing, and documenting wound status as directed by a nurse or wound care specialist. Workers follow the wound management plan and escalate any signs of infection or deterioration immediately.
Dysphagia Support: Mealtime support for participants with swallowing difficulties (dysphagia) as prescribed by a speech pathologist. This includes preparing food and fluids to the correct IDDSI texture and consistency, correct positioning during meals, monitoring for signs of aspiration, and following the participant’s individual mealtime management plan.
Medication Management: Assistance with medication prompting, administration, and monitoring as outlined in the participant’s medication management plan. Workers follow strict protocols for safe medication handling, documentation, and reporting of any errors or adverse reactions.
Overnight and 24/7 Support: Consistent, trained workers available for participants who require around-the-clock high intensity care – including active overnight shifts and sleepover support with defined response requirements.
Our Approach
We’re a family-led provider, not a rotating roster. Our high intensity support workers are skill-matched to your specific clinical needs and trained before their first shift with you.
You’ll see familiar faces, clear handovers between shifts, and a team that communicates openly with your allied health professionals and family – because in high intensity support, nothing should fall through the cracks.
Working Together
We work closely with families, carers, support coordinators, nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and allied health teams to make sure everyone is informed, aligned, and working toward the same goals.
When the whole team moves together, high intensity care feels safer – and outcomes are stronger.
